Susan Johnson, BS, RN

Nurse located in Cordova, Memphis, TN

Meet Susan Johnson, BS, RN

Susan earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a cognate in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 1991. She worked at the University as a Social Worker with the UAP. It was a grant that focused on Vietnam Veterans exposed to Agent Orange. It was a national program in which she was able to assist them in accessing community services in their hometowns. Susan also worked in foster care helping parents work towards reunification. If that was not an option, she worked at getting children, who were in foster care, into their forever homes.

Susan lived in South Carolina until moving to North Carolina in 1997. She worked with Chamberlin Edmonds helping indigent patients obtain SSDI/Medicaid/Medicare. In 1999, she moved to Memphis, TN, to work at Youth Villages, as a family counselor. Later, she began working as an advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

She worked to help them transition from institutional living, to the freedom of living as a citizen in our Memphis neighborhoods. In 2003, she pursued her dream and enrolled in Nursing School at Dyersburg State Community College. She graduated from there in 2005 with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Most of her nursing career has been in hospice and geriatric medicine. Currently, she is working full-time as a nurse case manager, helping chronically ill patients navigate the health system. On the weekends, she works for Transformation Center where she can use her past and present experiences to empower people to see their strengths and their ability to heal through life experiences.

Susan is married to her best friend, and they have 7 adopted fur babies, many of them with special needs. She enjoys cooking, swimming, music, and entertaining with friends.
